My Journey to Ghostwriting
Becoming a romance ghostwriter wasn’t the plan. In fact, my journey here was a little more oops, I tripped and fell into it than anything carefully planned out. But let’s rewind a bit.
I’ve been writing forever—and I mean forever. I started reading at two years old (yes, two—my parents made sure to let everyone know their toddler was very advanced), and by the time I hit nine, I’d written my first short story. It was about a young girl who didn’t realize she was a ghost and thought it strange her parents suddenly couldn’t see or hear her. Looking back, that theme of invisibility followed me for a while—first in my life, as I came out later than most, and then in my career, as I was too scared to publish my own work.
Instead, I found my writing kicks in fan fiction. It sparked my love for romance and taught me the art of creating swoon-worthy characters. I fell hard for the genre and then discovered the odd little thing called ghostwriting. You mean people make a living writing books for other people, and all they have to do is never tell? It was a no-brainer. I've always been great with secrets, and I wanted more than anything to do what I loved for money.
Before I knew it, I was taking on full manuscripts, working behind the scenes to help people bring their stories to life. And honestly? I loved it. I got to do the thing without ever having to come out of the shadows, and clients got to live their dream of being published. Win-win.
Fifteen years flew by like that, and somewhere along the way, something shifted. The more I wrote for others, the more I realized I had my own stories clawing to get out—ones I actually wanted to share. The fear was still there, sure, but now there was something else too: excitement. The kind that feels like a tiny fire in your chest, getting harder and harder to ignore.
So, I did it. I published my first book. Under my own name. And you know what? The world didn’t end. Now I’m working on a mystery romance series—finally comfortable (well, mostly comfortable) with seeing my name on the cover.
Looking back, I think ghostwriting was the perfect way to get here. It let me learn, grow, and build confidence in my abilities, all while helping amazing people share their stories. I guess I'm lucky that I get to do both: ghostwrite for clients who need a hand bringing their ideas to life, and write my own books for readers to (hopefully) enjoy.
So, if you’re sitting there wondering if you’re ready to tell your story, take it from someone who took a while to work up the courage: You are. And if you’re not ready to do it alone, well, that’s where I come in. Let’s make some magic together—your name on the cover, your vision in every word. I’ll be your secret weapon in the background, cheering you on every step of the way.
